CAFOD's climate change campaigning
We are inspired by Pope Francis who has spoken out in his Laudato Si' encyclical about climate change, growing global inequality and the destruction of nature as the greatest threats facing the human family and our environment.
Why climate change matters
In communities where CAFOD works, many are suffering from more frequent and extreme floods, storms, or droughts, pushing the most vulnerable people further into poverty. And farming families are struggling with more unpredictable seasons, meaning crops fail and livestock die because of a lack of food and water.
Out of love for our sisters and brothers worldwide, we are called to respond.
As part of The Climate Coalition, alongside over 100 organisations with millions of supporters across the UK, we call for politicians to stop climate change and promote sustainable development by:
- preventing climate change pushing people deeper into poverty
- supporting the transition from polluting fossil fuels to sustainable energy for all.
Climate campaign successes
Thousands of CAFOD supporters recently wrote to and tweeted DFID minister Nick Hurd MP to speak up for access to renewable energy at the Africa Energy Forum. He listened and in his speech addressed the need for renewable energy in Africa.
Hundreds of thousands of Catholics worldwide, including CAFOD supporters, called for an ambitious climate change deal in Paris in the lead-up to the crucial, global summit in December 2015. Your voices were heard.
How to stop climate change
Take action today - One in six people don't have access to the energy they need. You can help to change this.
