Harvest Fast Day
The very first Family Fast Day was held on Friday 11 March 1960, when volunteer members of the National Board of Catholic Women raised £6,673.00 for a Dominica mother and baby clinic.
Volunteers helped to found CAFOD and remain at the heart of our work at Fast Day.
Harvest Fast Day 2016: Friday 7 October
This harvest we hear from Nicanora, who is 32 years old and lives on the Bolivian Altiplano. Nicanora, her husband and 4 children often go hungry as growing crops on the Altiplano is difficult due to the extreme weathers. One hailstorm can wipe out a whole harvest.
However, over the next two years Nicanora will go on a journey, where she will work with our partners, to learn new skills in modern and traditional farming techniques. Her family will learn how to build wormeries and greenhouses, which will enable them to grow nutritious crops.
Please use the materials below in your parish to let everyone know how they can get involved this Harvest Fast Day.
