Lent Fast Day
The very first Family Fast Day was held on Friday 11 March 1960, when volunteer members of the National Board of Catholic Women raised funds for a Dominica mother and baby clinic.
This year, Lent Fast Day is Friday 10 March, and focuses on the work our partners are doing in Zambia. You can use our Fast Day resources to let everyone in your parish know it is Lent Fast Day, and invite them to get involved through fundraising and praying.
Lent Fast Day is Friday, 10 March 2017
Florence, 41, from Zambia received training from our partner, the Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. The sisters have worked in Zambia for over 20 years, and provided Florence with training in fish farming, giving her tools and some starter fish. Florence dug a pond, tended to her fish and then began selling them at market.
Thanks to your support and Florence's determination, something as small as the size of your thumb - a tiny tilapia fish - became something amazing: a future for her children.
To hear more about Florence's story and other projects supported by CAFOD, watch and share this talk from Sister Yvonne of the Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary.
