Help end period shame

Nadim did not know about periods. She was in class when she first started hers. With no sanitary towel, her clothes were stained and the boys began to laugh. Filled with fear and shame, Nadim left school and did not return for a week.

“Girls should not hate their bodies because periods are God given and they are natural” - Nadim

Nadim wanted answers. She joined a CAFOD funded health club at her school to understand what periods are. Here, Nadim learned along with other girls and boys that periods are natural and God-given. There was no place for shame.

Ending shame with skill

CAFOD supports school health clubs so that children like Nadim can gain answers. As well as explaining what periods are, we trained Nadim and her classmates to make reusable sanitary towels. The experience of shame was removed together, head-on, as a community.

Your donation could help us reach more girls like Nadim

Today, Nadim is head of her school’s health club. When she isn’t supporting young girls managing their periods, she can be found on the volleyball pitch, smiling with confidence.

“Today, I am not afraid or scared because whenever I go home or wherever I am, I know that I am secure” - Nadim

But sadly, many girls around the world still do not know about their period. They are unprepared, feel ashamed and often miss school. With your help we can change this. Together, we can end period shame.
