Without a toilet, Sagal and her neighbours were forced to go outside, in the open. They had no privacy and felt ashamed.

“Whenever I would go to the toilet, I would sometimes end up meeting an in-law, so it is something that is very shameful to me” - Segal

Ending shame with skill

CAFOD trained Sagal and her neighbours on how to build their toilet. Using wood, grass, reeds and mud from the surrounding area, it only took ten days to transform their lives.

“The latrine has become so important to me because when I enter into there I am secure, nobody is looking at me." - Sagal

Sadly, many people still do not have access to a toilet and are forced to go outside in the open. They face daily shame and worry about being seen. With your help, we can change this. Together, we can give people the privacy they deserve.
