The Romero Circle

CAFOD’s Romero Circle offers a way for groups of friends in England and Wales to have a tangible, measurable impact on a community thousands of miles away, enabling people to lift themselves out of poverty for good.

By joining the Romero Circle with your friends, your money will go towards a vital project that helps some of the world's poorest people.

The challenge

Conflict in the Middle East. Widespread hunger in Africa. Drought affecting rural communities in Latin America. The refugee crisis in Europe. Climate change.

These are just a few of the many challenges that communities around the world face on a daily basis.

With such widespread and varied issues, it can be hard to keep up to speed on developments, let alone know how to make a difference in the lives of some of the poorest people around the world.

But it is possible to help, and by working together, we can have an even greater impact.

CAFOD’s Romero Circle offers a way for groups of friends in England and Wales to have a tangible, measurable impact on a community thousands of miles away, enabling people to lift themselves out of poverty for good.

You can help through The Romero Circle

CAFOD’s Romero Circle offers a way for you to pledge a minimum of £5,000 a year with your friends and colleagues, to bring real, long-lasting change to communities around the world, lifting them out of poverty and enabling them to live their lives with dignity.

The projects you can support

We have partners in over 40 countries around the world, working to deliver a broad range of projects.

So the people you choose to help could be in Africa, Latin America, Asia, the Middle East, or Europe.

We’re very happy to discuss the particular areas your group are interested in, just let us know how you’d like to support people.

Whichever project you choose, you can be confident that your Circle is equipping some of our poorest sisters and brothers around the world for a better future.

Why Romero?

Oscar Romero was Archbishop of San Salvador from 1977 to 1980. He was assassinated whilst celebrating Mass for speaking out on behalf of the poor.

Romero did not simply talk about the need to love your neighbour, but courageously named the injustices that plagued his country when nobody else would, an approach that ultimately cost him his life. He reminds us that Christ is found in people living in poverty and that we cannot ignore our brothers and sisters in need.

Through the Romero Circle, we strive to continue his work: to stand up for people living in poverty, challenge injustice and demand change.

You can continue this work. You can provide real help to people who need you.
