For each pound you give to CAFOD’s Family Fast Day Appeal before 12 May, the UK Government will also give a pound to our nutrition work.
So your generosity will grow. And so will children around the world.
These three new projects in Zimbabwe desperately need funding. You can bring them to life. Find out what your Lent donation, doubled by the UK Government, can do:
1 - Beds for pregnant women at Mtora Mission Hospital
Mtora Mission Hospital shelters many expectant mothers during their last few weeks of pregnancy, so they’re close to medical care when they give birth. Many women walk eight or nine miles while pregnant to come to the shelter. Currently there’s not enough space for the mothers on the wards and they sleep on the floor when it’s busy.
Help build a ward for pregnant mothers
We want to raise enough money through our Lent Appeal to build a ward for pregnant mothers and provide 20 beds.
Pray for a better world
"We’re overcrowded. Some women arrive here almost ready to deliver. But we never turn them away. I worry about the mothers. I hope God can hear us and people can help us to renew this hospital.” Sister Consilia
2 - A vegetable garden for the Mudzemeti family
The Mudzemeti family are going hungry. Fiona Mudzemeti spends much of her day going back and forth fetching water and has little time for anything else. Peter is lucky if he earns $5 a day doing casual labour. Their youngest son Pardon, age 2, is showing signs of malnutrition – with a swollen stomach.
Donate to help children like Pardon
We want to provide tools, seeds and training so Fiona and Peter can plant a nourishing vegetable garden.
With match funding, £28 will be doubled to £56 – enough to buy all the seeds needed for a family like Peter’s to plant a garden full of nutritious vegetables.
Plant a vegetable garden
“The first thing I think about when I wake up is my family. ‘Where should I go to help my family survive?’ Sometimes I get an answer. But sometimes there are no answers anywhere.” Peter Mudzemeti
Remember Peter in your prayers
3 – Farming training for schoolchildren
During the driest seasons, many students in Zimbabwe miss days of classes in a row because they are too hungry to learn.
We want to set up health clubs where students learn the importance of eating a varied diet, and fund gardens for the children to plant fruit and vegetables.
Help children around the world to grow healthy and strong. Donate to CAFOD’s Lent Appeal today. Donations made by 12 May will be matched by the UK Government.
For every £1 you donate, the UK Government will contribute another £1
