Candlelight Funds celebrate a life and save thousands more
2 November 2017
Here at CAFOD we know that little can be said to soften the loss of a loved one. However, many of our Candlelight families have told us how much comfort they receive from knowing that we are here to listen.
All donations made to a Candlelight Fund are combined to create an enduring memorial.
So, by celebrating one very special life, you'll be touching thousands more around the world.
They can be a private act of remembrance or a collective effort with family and friends. It is completely up to you. We are always here if you simply want someone to talk to about your loved one and your reasons for remembering them in this way.
There are over 650 families who have decided to create a Candlelight Fund in memory of someone special and in the last year have raised over £130,000.
Remembering Les through a Candlelight Fund
Leslie Bareham (pictured above) was a kind man who brought joy to many and devoted so much time and love to creating a fairer, more just world. When he sadly passed away, his family’s lives were changed forever.
They decided to turn their grief into something positive
We didn’t realise when we agreed to set up the Candlelight Fund that the love and support that we would be shown by the team would form such an important part of our lives and our coming to terms with our loss.
The Bareham family
After hearing about CAFOD’s Candlelight Funds they knew that it would be a fitting tribute to this very special person.
Les’ family explained, “We could have just carried on grieving but Les had a belief in all that is good and an unwavering commitment to his faith”.
The Barehams said: “By caring and nurturing, you can enable people to support themselves and this is what CAFOD do so brilliantly…helping to ensure a peaceful, safe and sustainable world for so many vulnerable people.”
Les will be forever remembered by us here at CAFOD
We are so proud to be able to call the Barehams our friends. Without the support of amazing families like this, CAFOD’s work would not be possible.
