International Day of Charity: How Catholic schools support CAFOD's work

5 September 2020

Saturday 5 September is International Day of Charity 2020 and we would like to say a big thank you to all of the Catholic schools that have supported CAFOD in the last academic year.

From bright Harvest ideas, showing injustice the red card to support the people of the Amazon this Lent, to keeping hope alive by taking part in our Summer of Hope appeal, thank you so much for all you have done to support us.

Celebrating your achievements

Here are some highlights of your fantastic support:

Fundraising

950 schools fundraised for CAFOD, helping us to respond to emergencies, bring clean water to villages, provide families with food parcels and hygiene kits, and provide lifesaving healthcare. Thank you!

This summer, children, young people and their families got involved in our Summer of Hope appeal. You showed that hope was contagious by recreating missed events and transforming them into a sign of hope. Your amazing efforts raised over £64,438, meaning fewer families have to ask: “How do I keep my child safe if we don’t have water for handwashing?”

Thank you for keeping hope alive!

CAFOD visitors

Prior to lockdown, 827 Catholic Schools in England and Wales welcomed a CAFOD visitor into their school and took part in workshops and assemblies to learn about topics including child rights around the world and the defenders of the Brazilian Amazon.

This year we are developing a range of online offers so that we can continue to support schools, giving children and young people an insight into CAFOD’s work.

School charity of the year

A great way to support CAFOD in your school is to make us your charity of the year in primary school or secondary school.

There are so many ways to get involved with CAFOD. Support us through the year by spreading the word about what we do, organising fun fundraising events, taking part in our campaigns and keeping in touch with us on Twitter.

Feel free to contact us at schools@cafod.org.uk if you'd like any support.
