Live with hope this Advent
1 December 2019
The Lord comes that we might find him in this world of ours.
Laudato Si’ #236
Advent brings us closer to Christ who is with us. We are reminded that no one is beyond the reach of God's love.
We wait with joy for the Lord, the hope of the world.
We are called to reach out with love to our sisters and brothers in need, sharing our hope for a world transformed.
Share the gift of hope this Advent
Here are five things you can do this Advent to reach out and let hope flourish:
1) Follow our Advent calendar
Take time to read our Advent calendar with daily reflections based on Scripture and the experiences of people living in poverty. We have also created a primary school Advent calendar and an Advent calendar for young people.
2) Hold an Advent service
This Advent service invites you to reflect on the idea of home, and how to prepare a way for the Lord by finding room in our hearts for the needs of others. Feel free to adapt it for your parish or community.
3) Enjoy a Divine Advent
Order a beautiful Fairtrade chocolate Advent calendar. Each day includes a heavenly milk chocolate heart. Enjoy these delicious treats as you count down to Christmas.
4) Give a gift of hope
Share the light of hope this Advent. Shelter comes in many forms and is key to staying safe and protected from the elements. In times of emergency, something as simple as a tarpaulin can make a real difference. The Emergency shelter World Gift helps people in times of urgent need.
5) Pray with our global family
Use our Advent prayers to say in solidarity with our sisters and brothers, that our world may be transformed to reflect the kingdom of God.
