World Day of the Poor: three ways you can join us

29 October 2018

Pope Francis has declared Sunday 18 November 2018 to be the second World Day of the Poor.

What is the World Day of the Poor?

On this day we are called to open our arms with love for people living in poverty.

Here are three ways you can celebrate this special day in your parish, school or university chaplaincy.

Follow our email reflections on the World Day of the Poor

1. Pray with us

On this day we are invited to offer friendship, solidarity and welcome to the poorest of our sisters and brothers. Pope Francis asks us to pray, and to share a meal after Mass if we can, in a spirit of joy and togetherness.

Download prayers on poverty to share with your community.

2. Find inspiring liturgies

Take a look at these liturgy resources for your community, brought together by Caritas Social Action Network (CSAN). These include powerful stories, bidding prayers, homily notes, and posters for your parish or university chaplaincy.

3. Buy a World Gift

Our World Gifts are examples of concrete assistance being given by our partners to families in need right now.

Send a Goat that gives life-saving milk to children living in poverty or provide fresh, clean Water for a family and keep them safe from disease.
