World Day of the Poor: three ways you can join us

7 November 2017

Pope Francis has called the first World Day of the Poor on Sunday 19 November 2017.

What is the World Day of the Poor?

On this day we are called to open our arms with love for people living in poverty.

Here are three ways you can celebrate this special day in your parish, school or university chaplaincy.

Follow our email reflections on the World Day of the Poor

1. Pray the Our Father

Pope Francis asks us to pray the Our Father on this day. This prayer reminds us that we are all connected as children of God, and we are all in need of our daily bread.

Watch and share the Our Father video and download prayers on poverty to share with your community.

2. Find inspiring liturgies

Take a look at these liturgy resources for your community, brought together by Caritas Social Action Network (CSAN). These include powerful stories, bidding prayers, homily notes, and posters for your parish or university chaplaincy.

3. Buy a World Gift

Our World Gifts are examples of concrete assistance being given by our partners to families in need right now.

Send a Goat that gives life-saving milk to children living in poverty or provide fresh, clean Water for a family and keep them safe from disease.
