Lent calendar prayer and reflection for 15 February

Woman cooks for family in Zimbabwe - CAFOD in Lent

Marian cooks peanut butter for her family in Zimbabwe. Saying grace before meals is a form of solidarity with the poorest of our sisters and brothers.

Choose life, then, so that you and your descendants may live in the love of the Lord your God.

Deuteronomy 30:15-20

“Choose life.” These words are like a soft whisper in our hearts. We are called to place God’s love at the centre of our lives.

We can invite God into our lives by turning to the Lord throughout the day, and giving thanks for all that he gives us.

One small way we can live in the love of God is by giving thanks before and after meals.

Pope Francis says, “I ask all believers to return to this beautiful and meaningful custom. That moment of blessing reminds us of our dependence on God for life; it strengthens our feeling of gratitude for the gifts of creation; it acknowledges those who by their labours provide us with these goods; and it reaffirms our solidarity with those in greatest need.” (Laudato Si’ #227)

Let us remember to give thanks to God this Lent, and allow the fruit of our faith to blossom.

Lent prayer

We thank you Lord, for your river of mercy wells up and overflows unceasingly. May we draw closer to you, source of life, through our actions and prayers. Amen.
