Lent calendar prayer and reflection for 20 February
Give us today our daily bread.
Many of us know the words of the Our Father by heart. Perhaps we even say the words automatically, without thinking about their meaning.
Today let us imagine that, like the disciples, we are listening to this prayer for the first time. What could it be teaching us about God and the world we share?
Pope Francis offers this thoughtful reflection:
“Let us not forget that the Our Father is the prayer of the poor… Everything that Jesus taught us in this prayer expresses and brings together the cry of all who suffer from life’s uncertainties and lack of what they need.
“When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, he answered in the words which the poor speak to our one Father, in whom all acknowledge themselves as brothers and sisters.”
Let us join in prayer with our family across the world, in hope that God’s kingdom will come.
The Our Father reminds us that, wherever in the world we come from, we are all children of God. Watch the video above and download these beautiful prayers.
