Most High, all-powerful, all-good Lord,
all praise is yours, all glory, honour and blessings.
We praise you, Lord, for all your creatures.

We praise you, Lord, for Brothers Wind and Air,
fair and stormy, all weather's moods,
by which you cherish all that you have made.

An extract from the Canticle of the Sun by St Francis of Assisi

Praise and penitence

Creator God, we give you thanks for our brothers wind and air. One in every five breaths we take, we owe to the great forests of the Amazon, the lungs of our world.

Forgive us for the times when we have harmed the beautiful earth you gave us or taken more than our share of the gifts of creation. Give us courage to change any of our actions that lead to forests being felled or burned.

Guide the Church as she listens to the cry of the Amazon people. Guide us all to respect the fragile balance of nature, in which everything is interconnected.

May we learn from the wisdom of those who live in the heart of nature, custodians of the forests on which we depend.

Lead us as we walk together with our sisters and brothers in their hopes and struggles, and fill us with the courage to protect our common home for generations to come.

We ask this through Christ our Lord,

St Francis, pray for us.

“We the indigenous people of Guaviare are part of nature since we ourselves are water, air, earth and life of this environment created by God. Therefore we ask for the destruction of our Mother Earth to stop.”
