Prayers for peace

In a world filled with violence and conflict, we pray for peace.

Comfort o comfort your people

We pray for those lives,
made in your image,
damaged by violence.

Response: Comfort, o comfort your people.

We pray for those in authority
that they may use their power
to bind wounds, heal relationships and find common ground.

Response: Comfort, o comfort your people.

We pray for a transforming peace,
turning fear into trust,
pain into hope
and doubt into confidence
for a better future.

Response: Comfort, o comfort your people

We pray for world leaders
that they may establish structures for justice,
protecting human dignity,
enabling reconciliation
and building God's kingdom.

Response: Comfort, o comfort your people.

Lord, send us the gift of peace

Watch over the people of [insert country here]
who have been forced to flee their homes
and face violence and fear.

Lord, send us the gift of peace

Lead them to a place of safety,
comfort those who grieve
and bring healing to those in pain.

Lord, send us the gift of peace.

Convert the hearts of those
who commit violence and wage war.
Turn them away from persecution towards peace.

Lord, send us the gift of peace.

Turn hatred to understanding,
and anger to compassion.
Through your love, transform horror into hope.

Lord, send us the gift of peace.

And fill us all with your Spirit
so that with one voice, throughout the world,
we may cry out:

Lord, send us the gift of peace

Mary, Queen of Peace, pray for us...

Peace is...

Peace is the resulting action on an agreement to end a war.

Peace is the mutual laying down of weapons.

Peace is the worldwide cessation of armament production.

Peace is the reconciliation between adversaries.

Peace is the change of hearts and minds of people who wage war.

Peace is the smile of the refugee housed following exile from home.

Peace is the satisfaction in the face of a hungry child just ded.

Peace is the return to boyhood of a child soldier.

Peace is the respect for women and their equal rights as human beings.

Peace is the just, merciful and compassionate use of power by the powerful.

Peace is the empowerment of disadvantaged and marginalised people.

Peace is the healing arrived at through truth and reconciliation commissions.

Peace is the mutual respect of people of all faiths and none.

Help us, Lord, to continue to strive for peace in all of its forms.

Breaking barriers to peace

God of all,
as we walk together.

Open our hearts
to your tenderness.

Open our minds
to your understanding.

Open our lives
to your challenge.

We are one people, many nations,
building hope through steps for peace.

One world with many barriers,
breaking chains so we dance free.

One voice that shouts for justice
shatters hatred, calls for change.

One God, one world, one people,
turning tables, share the feast.

Building for the future

May the memory of wars strengthen our efforts for peace;
may the memory of those who died inspire our service to the living;
may the memory of past destruction move us to build for the future;
O God of Peace, O Companion of our souls,
O Builder of Love and Justice in this world.

Lord, we commit our time, our energy, our talents, our gifts,
even our limitations, failures and very selves to the cause of
justice, peace and human development.
We join our lives with those who support the struggle for life.

May your kingdom come

May fear strike no longer,
let pain fade away,
may earthly power be challenged,
when it plunders the poor,
and tramples on hope.

God of peace, may your kingdom come.
Help us put away the weapons of war,
help us destroy the tools of destruction,
let earthly power be challenged,
when it plunders the poor,
and tramples on hope.

God of peace, may your kingdom come.
Teach us to follow the ways of justice,
teach us to walk the paths of truth,
let integrity challenge the power that plunders,
when it tramples the poor
and pours scorn on our hope.

God of peace, may your kingdom come.
Bring peace sweet as honey,
bring peace like a shield,
and may we be the challenge
to earthly power that plunders
and tramples on hope.

God peace may your kingdom come.

A prayer for those affected by conflict

God of refuge, the rock in whom we trust,
watch over our sisters and brothers in [insert country].
Bring comfort to those who grieve,
shelter to those who are homeless,
and sustenance to those who hunger and thirst.

God of mercy, open our hearts to your grace,
so that we are filled with compassion and a generosity of spirit,
and inspire us to take action.
Spirit of love, pour out your peace like a healing balm,
which brings hope in place of despair.

Prayer of St Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is error, the truth;
where there is doubt, the faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled, as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Spirit of unity

God our Father, we bring before you our world - a world filled with divisions among nations, religions and ethnic groups all as a result of the struggle for power, wealth and might.

These divisions have caused the destruction of lives and properties.
Wars have destroyed homes and separated families.

In all of this your Trinity is a unique symbol of your unity and solidarity for us all.

In all these challenges, Lord, your remain united and in solidarity with us; yes Lord we thank you for this.

We ask you God our Father to send us your spirit of unity among nations, ethnic groups and among religions to inspire us to be in solidarity with one another.

May we remain united in solidarity as you, Father, Son and Spirit are one.
