Getting help and support
CAFOD staff locally are your first port of call for support. They will be happy to help. You can find the names and contact details of your local diocesan staff on this map of England and Wales
For each school visit that you deliver on behalf of CAFOD please fill in a form filled and return to your local volunteer centre so that we can record activities and keep our database up to date. You can use one form for every day you are in school but make sure you record all the different activities you do on it.
Please give a copy of the below evaluation form for teachers to staff on each visit:
It isn't always easy to arrange a visit so download our tips for getting invited to do a session in a school
Keep a log of contact sheet for each school you are assigned to. This will help you keep track of the interactions you have with a school. It will also help if another volunteer takes over this school from you.
This prompt sheet will help you with making a telephone call to a school to try and arrange a visit
It is important that you claim your expenses. We don't want anyone to be out of pocket because of their volunteering. It is also important that everyone claims their expenses monthly so that we can keep a record of how much the school volunteer programme costs to run. If you wish, you can always pay your expenses back to CAFOD as a donation.
If you need any printed resources please phone 020 7095 5680 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Remember to say that you are a schools volunteer so that you aren't charged for the resources.
When ordering printed resources such as stickers please allow at least 10 days before a visit to ensure they reach you in time and to keep delivery costs low
When schools fundraise for us they receive a thank you certificate in the post. However, when you visit a school which has fundraised you might like to take a certificate along. Remember when a school "presents" you with a cheque you should ask them to post it to CAFOD directly. The address is Donations Processing Team, Romero House, 55 Westminster Bridge Road, London SE1 7JB
A certificate is a great way to say thank you to a school or class for having you in to visit. Here are a range of certificates for various topics
Details of the Lent Refresher Training days will appear here soon
