“Elijah… was sent to a widow at Zarephath, a Sidonian town”
Jesus today reminds us of God’s special concern for the marginalised and poor.
He remembers the story of the prophet Elijah, who in a time of drought was sent by God to a poor widow, who was not one of the Israelite people. The widow shared with Elijah the very last of her food and drink and God used this act of selfless generosity to perform a miracle.
Activity
How can you be generous today? Perhaps make or find something to give away – paint a picture, bake a cake or donate some clothes to charity.
