With the new term fast approaching, schoolchildren are excitedly preparing for their first day in a new school or dusting off their uniforms for the new school year, eager to see their friends after the summer break.
This back to school experience is shared by children around the world, from the UK to Zimbabwe. The difference is that many children around the world do not have access to basic needs.
Clean water and toilet facilities are things that we are fortunate to have. They are important to allow children to learn and thrive in school.

Bringing clean water to communities
Thanks to your donations, we are helping to improve the lives of 334,000 people including school children – in countries such as DR Congo, Uganda and Zimbabwe – by bringing clean water to their communities.
For years, villagers had been forced to walk more than six miles to find their nearest source of clean drinking water each day – and for many years the primary school relied on a basic squat toilet that served the whole school community, including the teachers. Outbreaks of potentially deadly waterborne diseases like cholera and typhoid have affected local communities.
In 2016, your Lent donations were matched by the UK government through UK Aid Match, which enabled us to provide clean water and toilet facilities to many rural hard-to-reach communities – including Kwaedza Primary School in Zimbabwe.
These new facilities have changed the lives of the children in the community.
