World Day of Peace falls on 1 January. It is a day when the Catholic Church encourages us to dedicate prayer and action to promoting universal peace.

The world is experiencing more and more conflicts with devastating consequences. In 2024, it is projected that nearly 300 million people will be in need of humanitarian assistance and protection due to conflict and disasters.

In places like Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Syria and Yemen, your help is needed more than ever.

One-in-five children around the world were living in or fleeing from conflict in 2023.

Here are three ways you can help to promote peace in the world and support those affected by conflict today.

1. Donate to our Refugee and Conflict Fund

Forced to leave behind jobs, personal belongings, and loved ones, vulnerable people fleeing conflict urgently need shelter, food and water.

Displacement in 2023

110 million people were forcibly displaced from their homes in 2023 due to persecution, conflict and violence.

The local experts we work with are already in the affected areas and, with your donations, they can continue to provide vulnerable families with practical assistance and help them rebuild their lives.

2. Buy a Promoting Peace World Gift

The arrival of refugees from different countries and cultures can be quite challenging for the local host communities.

The Promoting peace gift can provide workshops for refugees and local communities to encourage conversations, improve relationships and address community needs.

This gift can help increase tolerance, reduce tension, and build lasting peace.

This essential charity gift is a great way to support refugees who were forced to flee their homes by also helping to meet their emergency needs.

3. Pray for peace

This World Day of Peace, we pray for urgent peace in the Holy Land and other countries suffering conflict. Join us in prayer for universal peace.

Share these peace prayers with others in your parish or community or use them to inspire your personal prayer time.
