Unite to cancel unjust debt
The coronavirus pandemic is the worst global health crisis in a century. Yet many countries are being forced to choose between spending money on health care or on continuing to pay their debts. Unless urgent action is taken, countries will be plunged into a new debt crisis as they respond to the threat of the virus while managing spiralling debt payments.
At the same time, the economic shock caused by the coronavirus pandemic is hitting the world’s poorest countries hard with millions of people set to be pushed into extreme poverty as a result.
It is essential that these countries have debts cancelled to enable them to spend money on supporting the most vulnerable, surviving the pandemic and rebuilding from its devastation.
That is why CAFOD has been campaigning on debt cancellation for poor nations in response to the Coronavirus pandemic.
