Wavertree Athletics Centre
A time-honoured tradition, the Liverpool CAFOD Fun Run is this year calling out for more people to get involved and ensure that this year is the biggest and best yet!
Set to be held on Friday 27 December at Wavertree Athletics Centre, Liverpool (Mystery Playground) everyone can get involved no matter what their ability.
There is the option of completing a 5k or 2.5k run or a 2k walk – and entry is just £5 for children, £10 for adults and £20 for a family.
The day will start a 12 noon with registration, with the events starting from 1 pm.
A long history of helping global communities
Starting in 1983, the race was originally held in Upholland.
Since then, the event has expanded and moved to Liverpool at The Mystery, Wavertree Park – and has only ever been cancelled once due to hazardous conditions.
In the three decades since the race started, it has raised almost £500,000 to help some of the most vulnerable communities around the world, including those recovering after the Haiti Earthquake, Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines and the Ethiopian drought.
Recently funds were raised to help Syrian refugee families, where CAFOD is working through trusted church partners in Syria to get vital aid and supplies to vulnerable people.
‘Everyone is welcome’
Everyone is welcome to come along and soak up the atmosphere and live music, as well as being invited to run, walk or even toddle the route with friends and family.
People are also encouraged to fill out a sponsorship form to fundraise for CAFOD.
Siobhan Farnell, CAFOD’s representative in Liverpool, said:
“It is so wonderful to see that every year, come rain or shine, hundreds of people turn out in support of CAFOD.
“It really means a lot that people keep showing up to do this event every year – which helps to build community not just local, but globally, with proceeds of the event going to support some of the poorest communities around the world.”
