When Shorai first began farming in his community in Zimbabwe, it was difficult. The arid climate and a lack of vital equipment, like ploughs, meant doing hard, physical labour every day.

Then the droughts came.

Harvests failed and his family began to go hungry. "As a father", Shorai told us, "it will be difficult for you to sleep."

But Shorai and his community had an idea for a garden where the whole community could grow crops to feed their families. They reached out to CAFOD's local partners and, thanks to your donations, they were able to help.

Now, Shorai has access to an eco-garden that uses drought-resistant crops and a solar-powered water pump. That pump, funded by donations like yours, draws water from a nearby dam, turning dry ground into fertile land.

Shorai told us: "We haven’t had any challenges with food since we started this project."

And it's not just food security that the garden has given them: "It gives us more time as family to have quality time together, and it also increases love."
