Volunteers from CAFOD’s local partners help to push a van out of the flooded roads
In September 2023, Storm Daniel brought powerful winds and heavy rain to the north-east of Libya. This caused devastating floods across the region, with some areas seeing flood waters reach up to three metres deep.
The flood water swept away houses and vehicles, leaving many without a roof over their head. Over 5,000 people lost their lives and thousands more needed urgent humanitarian assistance.
How your donations have helped
Our local partners provided urgent medical assistance and distributed food baskets, emergency tents, blankets, first aid kits and other critical household items to the most vulnerable people caught up in this crisis.
“Thanks to your generous support, we have been able to help thousands of people with their mental and physical health, ensuring that they had access not only to food and clean drinking water, but also to psychosocial support. Your support is vital to enable CAFOD and its partners to respond to emergencies like this one quickly and efficiently.”
