Sarah and her child

You are helping people like Sarah

Sarah is one of the people who was forced to flee Sudan because of the conflict. She is a mother of four children, who was running a small business to take care of her family in Khartoum, the capital city of Sudan.

Before the crisis happened, three of her children had gone to visit their grandmother who lives in a different area. Sarah and her husband could not make it to where their children were because of the fighting, and they had to make the very painful decision to leave without them. Their home was destroyed, and they had to leave everything behind. Sadly, they have been unable to get in touch with or see their three older children since.

Since arriving in Renk, a border town between Sudan and South Sudan, it has been difficult to get food and supplies and she worries about her children.

“What l currently need is food, water, tarpaulin to cover my temporary shelter, and access to farming inputs like seeds and fishing nets to enable me to be self-reliant and have extra to sell in the nearby market," said Sarah. "I am hopeful the conflict will end, and l go back home."

You have also helped support water trucks and provide buckets so that Sarah can get vital water. She has also been provided with blankets and food parcels.

If conflict in Sudan stops l will go back to my children and restart my business

How cash assistance helps families like Sarah's

CAFOD and its local partner were able to give cash assistance to Sarah. Through cash assistance families like Sarah’s can decide what they need most. Sarah was able to buy food and personal items.

Thanks to your donations, emergency support such as food, water, blankets and cash assistance have already been provided to people affected.

The short-term impact of this is offering hope to people and standing with them to show them that they are not alone. And it's not the end. We need to work together and make sure dignity is not washed away. Despite all that is happening, there is hope for tomorrow.
