The difference monthly gifts make: How Felicia built her business

Felicia working with fish

Felicia Fannieh is a fishmonger living in West Point, Liberia with her fisherman husband Augustine and their six children.

Felicia dries and sells the fish that Augustine catches to provide for their family. But Augustine risked losing everything when he went out to sea, and there were days when he caught very little. On those days the family didn’t have enough to eat – and then Felicia had some of her money stolen while she was working.

Felicia told us that "the children were so sad about the situation because we had no money and no food… I used to feel very bad as a mother because things were very difficult."

But thanks to your support, Felicia was able to get the practical help she needed. And because monthly gifts help our local experts to confidently plan work in their communities, they’ve been able to support Felicia and her family in the long term.

Make a monthly gift

Felicia is now a member of a savings group, and you've helped to provide her group with a secure money box, to keep their earnings safe.

Felicia has also been given a solar-powered freezer, so that she can store fresh fish and sell it on.

It has been a great help for me and my family because CAFOD gave our savings group solar freezers... I sell the fish and after selling it I make more money because the fish is fresh. This helps me cater for my family's needs.
