This is a summary of CAFOD's benefits. The below provide a general overview to support candidates/applicants during the recruitment process. Criteria and conditions apply and more comprehensive information is provided in the specific policies and procedures that relate to working conditions, pay and benefits.

We know that life isn't all about work so we also offer benefits to help you maintain a work-life balance, for example flexible working and various fun and sporting activities which take place throughout the year in some of our offices e.g. barbeque evenings, football, CAFOD sports day.

Candidates/applicants are advised to ensure they fully understand the terms & conditions, pay and benefits applicable when accepting a job at CAFOD.

Flexible Working: Getting the work-life balance right is increasingly becoming high on the agenda for our staff who have personal responsibilities and interests outside work. CAFOD recognises this and encourages staff to take advantage of this benefit.

Salary: CAFOD is an accredited Living Wage employer and has a commitment to pay a Living Wage, as set by the Living Wage Foundation for all UK employees. For salaries for staff based outside the UK, we work with international salary benchmarking companies to ensure they are fair. Salaries may be reviewed annually.

Annual Leave: CAFOD rewards its staff with a generous annual leave allowance that increases the longer you work with us. The annual leave year runs from 1 April to 31 March. After 5 years’ continuous service, annual leave goes up from 34 to 36 days including bank (public) holidays and CAFOD office closure days around Easter and Christmas.  

Buying Annual Leave: This benefit allows staff to purchase annual leave through a salary sacrifice arrangement.  Staff members who qualify can buy up to a maximum of 10 days (pro-rata) for use within that financial year.

Maternity or Adoption Leave and Pay: For staff members who meet the criteria, CAFOD provides a generous top up package for maternity pay. In the UK, all female staff members are entitled by law to 52 weeks’ maternity leave, comprising 26 weeks’ ordinary maternity leave and 26 weeks’ additional maternity leave regardless of how long they have worked for the organisation.

Staff members who have 1 years’ continuous service into the 15th week before the expected week of childbirth, will receive an enhanced maternity payment of 18 weeks full pay.

Adoption and Shared Parental leave and pay mirrors maternity entitlement.

Paternity Leave and Pay: CAFOD provides two weeks leave with full pay for staff members who meet the criteria.

Compassionate Leave: Staff members are entitled to take up to 7 days leave, depending on the circumstances, on full pay for the death of a very close relative. This is at the discretion of the line manager and consideration will be given to how many times this leave has been granted.

Life Assurance: As part of your benefits package, CAFOD provides a death in service benefit to provide some financial assurance to your loved ones in the event of your death, whilst employed by CAFOD. This is between 3 - 4 times your basic salary depending on location.

Permanent Health Insurance scheme (Income Protection): Staff members on UK contracts are eligible to apply for salary protection under this scheme. This scheme provides staff members with an income in the event they are unable to work for 26 weeks or more.

Travel Insurance: CAFOD provides emergency medical cover and business travel insurance for travel related to our work. This does not cover you for personal holiday trips.

Pensions: There is a generous contributory pension scheme (10% employer with 5% employee contribution). Alternatively, CAFOD will make a similar contribution to a Personal Pension Plan. CAFOD is required to automatically enrol UK staff as per auto-enrolment legislation.CAFOD’s employer contributions go up to 12.5% after 10 years’ service.

Best Doctors: A free and fully confidential health advisory service for CAFOD UK staff members and their dependants. The second medical opinion service provides access to over 50,000 leading consultants worldwide. They offer expert second opinions on diagnoses and treatments for almost any condition.

Employee Assistance Programme: EAP is a support service for staff members which provides confidential telephone, e-mail and face-to-face counselling support with legal, relational, and medical advice/support, as well as an online Health Gateway to help track individuals’ fitness and wellbeing.

Season Ticket Loan: CAFOD staff are entitled to apply for an annual interest free season ticket loan.

Eye Tests: Staff members can have a full examination at Specsavers, paid for by CAFOD, where necessary as part of your role. A voucher will be provided that will also cover a pair of glasses of £45 single vision CR39 glasses (if required solely for work purposes) or you will get £20 off when you purchase a pair of complete glasses from the £99 range and above.

Renewal: CAFOD staff can take time off on renewal (sabbatical/career break) following 7 years’ service.

Security Training: All staff members whose roles involve travel receive basic security and first aid training which is renewed every three years. Staff members who travel to countries recognised as severe also attend a 3 days’ intense security training course before deployment.

Learning and Development Opportunities: CAFOD has an online learning platform available to staff members in all our locations where we work which is designed to support you. Our staff members have different learning styles and we provide opportunities for learning that address these. We provide support, coaching and mentoring, guidance, materials, training and links to support your development in various aspects of our work.

Activities for Staff: For staff based in the London office, there are various activities that take place in or around the office during lunch e.g. Zumba, Pilates, Yoga, Football.
