CAFOD

We are very sorry you were unable to attend the Every Second Counts Event at the Ukrainian Cathedral in London, on the evening of Wednesday 14 May.

We know that emergencies are becoming more severe, frequent, protracted and are not reaching the media. As always, it is the poorest and most vulnerable who are the worst affected. Every Second Counts (ESC) is CAFOD’s £7 million emergency response initiative. Together we are ensuring that at the time of a crisis families and communities have the tools they need to survive and build back stronger.

Every Second Counts - Prepare, Survive, Rebuild

On the night we listened in as Julie Etchingham, journalist, broadcaster and CAFOD ambassador, chaired a fascinating conversation on CAFOD's work and emergencies that often do not reach the news. We heard from experts about our ESC work, including Ibrahim Njuguna, CAFOD’s head of humanitarian, about the growing humanitarian need around the world, including the increasingly concerning escalation of violence in Sudan and other recent crises. We also heard from Diana Trimino, our head of Latin America and Caribbean who shared about the work we do with our partners to increase their resilience to future shocks and to prepare for emergencies before they happen.

We were also joined by Jayne Crow, the head of programmes at the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) who shared how CAFOD, alongside the other 14 member agencies, continues to raise funds quickly and efficiently at times of crisis overseas.

Thank you for all your continued kindness and support of Every Second Counts, enabling our partners to be there for communities before, during and after a crisis.

If you would like to follow up with any of the panel or would like to hear more about CAFOD's emergency response work, please do get in touch with Roisin on 020 7095 5676 or email her at ESC@cafod.org.uk
