Members of Lokho’s community and women’s group rejoice with their vegetables
“So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. Both were running…”
Everyone is running in today’s gospel. Mary races to share the news of the empty tomb, and then the two disciples sprint to the grave. We are even told who ran faster and arrived first.
There’s an urgency as the friends of Jesus run towards the place the Lord has been laid to rest. May our hearts too hasten to the empty tomb and there find in the resurrection renewed hope – for ourselves and for the transformation of our world.
We are surrounded by signs of the new life of the resurrection. It can be seen in the hope for the future that Lokho’s community in Kenya now possess, thanks to the unfailing generosity of CAFOD volunteers and supporters.
It is apparent in the courage of those working for peace and the defence of human rights. We witness it in the care that so many show for our common home, the earth.
As Pope Francis urges,
“Let us accept the grace of Christ’s resurrection! Let us be renewed by God’s mercy, let us be loved by Jesus, let us enable the power of his love to transform our lives too; and let us become agents of this mercy, channels through which God can water the earth, protect all creation and make justice and peace flourish.” (Urbi et Orbi)
May we enter this Easter season with joy, ready to share our hope that, through God’s grace, a better world for all people is possible.
Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia!
Risen Jesus, we give you thanks for the new life and hope you bring us this Easter day. Make real your risen life among us so that, filled with your abundant love, we may renew the face of the earth. Amen.
