Thanks to donations from CAFOD supporters, Rejoice and her community in South Sudan now have thriving floating gardens.
First be reconciled to your brother and then come and offer your gift.
Just as, in Christ, we are reconciled to God, so we are called to reconcile with one another. If I am bringing my gift to the altar and then remember that someone has something against me, I should leave my gift and try to restore the relationship.
The message is clear: right relationship with God demands right relationship with our sisters and brothers. We must see others as beloved of God and care about their concerns and well-being.
The work of reconciliation is demanding. At times it can mean confronting the brokenness that prejudice, oppression and injustice have caused. It is the ongoing work of building a better world, where the dignity of each person is recognised and all can truly flourish.
Today is Family Fast Day. As we eat simply today, in solidarity with our sisters and brothers, let’s pray that we will grow in right relationship with the earth, our global family and with God.
Prayer
God of love,
where there is distrust,
hurt and division,
we pray for reconciliation,
understanding and renewal.
May we come together
as one human family,
to work for the common good.
Amen.
