Lent reflection for 1 April: Holy Thursday

Bare feet on a stone in the lake.

If I then, the Lord and Master, have washed your feet, you must wash each other’s feet.

“If I then, the Lord and Master, have washed your feet, you must wash each other’s feet.”

John 13:14

Today we hear how Jesus washes the disciples’ feet. He sets themselves at their service and tells them that this is an example for them to copy.

Through his actions, Jesus shows how much he loves the disciples and he shows us how we are to love and to serve one another today.

We are called to serve in different ways. Whether that is through small acts of kindness to those closest to us, helping out a neighbour, or volunteering in our local community. Or whether it is through raising awareness of some of the problems in our world, fundraising or campaigning to make a change, or praying for our sisters and brothers throughout the world.

And so today, let us pray we may be guided by Christ’s love to serve one another and to seek a world that reflects the kingdom of God

Lent prayer

Christ Jesus, you call us to walk humbly with you and to serve one another in love. Inspired by your example may we reach out to one another, tending one another’s needs. Amen.
