Maria and family, Ukraine

We have worked in Ukraine through our local partners since the Russian invasion - helping families who've been forced to flee conflict and leave behind jobs, belongings and loved ones.

When Maria and her family had to flee the fighting in Ukraine, they found shelter in a village the other side of the country, but the family couldn’t afford the firewood they needed for winter.

When they managed to find a new place to live, Maria had to rebuild it with her husband Stephan because it was in such poor condition. Despite working so hard to make their home habitable, Maria knew her family was in serious trouble when freezing winter winds began to howl and they couldn't afford firewood.
