Yasmine and her family have been forced to flee more than once. Her youngest daughter was born in a tent, during the worst of the violence.
When winter winds tear through the camp, the family has to fight to keep their shelter standing.
“You see the tent flying away, and it takes two or three people to hold the tent down,” she said. “We try to keep warm. We wrap ourselves in blankets and things like that. No matter what, it’s not really a home. It’s just a tent.”
Yasmine’s family is not alone. Our partners in Gaza tell us people are simply exhausted. Although some supplies are entering Gaza, there are heavy restrictions and far more are needed to meet the urgent needs of families. Destroyed roads and ongoing military action make it harder to get essential supplies to people who need them.
Support like yours helped our partners bring Yasmine’s family medical care, psychological support and essential supplies. But many more families still need help to survive the winter.
With the temperatures plummeting, people like Yasmine can’t wait any longer for the essentials they need to survive the winter. Your donation is vital to families facing the harshest conditions. You could help a family like Yasmine’s stay warm and equipped for the months ahead.
For us Catholics, Advent is a time to reach out with love and warmth. When the Holy Family arrived in Bethlehem, they relied on their new neighbours for shelter.
Don’t wait to help our neighbours this winter.
