Middle East conflict: CAFOD's partners are helping families now

Your donation today to our Emergency Response Fund can get to work straight away, supporting our trusted local experts based in Lebanon, occupied Palestinian territory and Israel.

Food and shelter in Lebanon

In the last few days, the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel has got much worse.

In Lebanon, more than 500 people have already been killed and tens of thousands have left their homes to seek safety further north. The panic caused by airstrikes has meant that roads are blocked by heavy traffic and people have been forced to sleep in their cars, afraid for their families.

Our partners are helping these families right now as they arrive in safer areas. Your donations will help with:

  • emergency healthcare

  • food packages

  • safe shelter

  • cash to buy fuel, blankets and other essentials.

Practical help getting through in Gaza

Despite the risk to life, our local partners in Gaza are clear that with your support, they can continue to provide practical help to families caught up in the conflict.

Elizabeth Funnell, CAFOD’s Country Programme Representative in the Middle East says us why our partners are continuing to respond:

"People in Gaza are starving. The daily struggle to secure bread is exhausting.

However, they are continuing to respond urgently and they have been clear that with more funds, they can do more to meet the desperate needs and provide essential items to their communities.”

What Pope Francis has said

Saying that he is “saddened” by the news coming out of Lebanon, Pope Francis has called on the international community to make every effort “to stop this terrible escalation”.

The Holy Father also appealed for us to pray for Lebanon, saying the country “is, and must remain, a project of peace. With you, I implore from heaven that peace which people struggle to build on earth. I beg it for the Middle East, and for Lebanon.”

You can make a difference today

Your support will allow this urgent practical help to be given to families in crisis-hit areas in the Middle East, and can help us to respond quickly to emergencies worldwide.

Please also keep the people of the Middle East and our local expert workers in your prayers.
