How urgent is the situation in Gaza and Lebanon?
In Gaza, people are dying of hunger and disease, as well as injuries caused by the conflict. Food and clean water are desperately scarce. Ninety per cent of the population are displaced, and more than 42,000 people have been killed. There is no safe place for people in Gaza to go.
In Lebanon, over 1 million people have had to leave their homes due to the conflict. Shelters are overwhelmed, and hospitals are struggling to treat the thousands of people injured.

What Pope Francis has said about the Middle East conflict
Saying that he is “saddened” by the news coming out of Lebanon, Pope Francis has called on the international community to make every effort “to stop this terrible escalation”.
The Holy Father also appealed for us to pray for Lebanon, saying the country “is, and must remain, a project of peace. With you, I implore from heaven that peace which people struggle to build on earth. I beg it for the Middle East, and for Lebanon.”
