In September 2026, I decided to set myself a challenge of running an accumulative 90 kilometres across the entire month, raising money for CAFOD in memory of my Grandma Agnes, who passed away in August. Her 91st birthday would have been in September, so it was a way to celebrate her birthday and her life, for a fantastic charity that meant so much to her and our family.
CAFOD is an organisation that is so close to our hearts as a family and particularly for my grandma, who herself had donated to and supported CAFOD, whether through her local parish, St Joseph’s in Reddish, or through supporting the work done across the world. In recent years, me and my brother would donate to CAFOD as requested by her during Christmas or for her birthday. I know she would be delighted with the end result of this challenge I took on!
My grandma was an incredibly warm-hearted person, who would always put others first. As a mother of six, a grandma of eleven, and a great-grandma of ten, as well as a large extended family through in-laws, her family was so important to her and it's a testament to her and her values of how close we always will be as a family. She regularly supported the local community, both in Reddish and her hometown of Dingle, CO. Kerry, supporting with the local churches and with parishioners.
There are so many amazing memories I have of my grandma, whether it’s spending weekends as a child staying over at her house, getting a chippy and watching the football highlights, or the many summers spent in Dingle with her, my parents, aunties, uncles and cousins on the beach in the rain!
