Sally was an Architecture student before war broke out in her homeland and she was forced to flee to Lebanon. She received support, but her accommodation had no heating apart from one small stove. After a year, Sally learnt that a child refugee she knew had died because of the cold following a winter storm.
Sally was inspired to take action. She started visiting a nearby refugee camp to see how she could help, collecting money, distributing essential items to those in need, and teaching children Arabic and English.
She began working with CAFOD's local partner who tackles discrimination and the lack of basic human rights for refugees from varied backgrounds. Sally now works with communities, organising activities promoting peace.
The communities come together for workshops and plan local initiatives to build relationships and improve refugees' and local communities' quality of life.
